Synopsis

A chance encounter changes everything.

After the loss of his closest friend, and with a scheduled deployment closing in, the last thing Army Ranger Colin Dunham wants is to start any new relationship. But Joey, with her gorgeous eyes and blunt honesty, grabs Colin’s attention from the moment he catches her watching him from across the bar. He knows one night is all they can have. This mysteriously addictive girl ends up taking over every one of his dreams and nightmares, though, crossing the line of another night he’d rather forget.
As dreams become reality, Colin steps in to protect Joey from a threat he never imagined. And when tables turn, it’s Joey who must protect him.
Circumstances are never what they seem.

Can just one night lead them to the other side of heartache?

Review

I love Rebecca Brooke’s books and have followed along with her career for several years now and I honestly believe that each book just gets better and better. Just Once is a stand-alone romance that follows a side character from Letter’s Home (Colin) This can completely be read on it’s own though. Just Once is a touching story of two soldiers finding love in hardest place possible, a warzone.

What I loved most about Colin and Joey’s story was how unique and personal it was. They literally go through hell to both save themselves but also each other and on the other side of it all they find love. Love isn’t always easy and it isn’t even always what you are looking for but when it is there it is undeniable and that is what their story is about.

Joey is such a strong heroine. She knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to go for it. Being a pilot in the military is a predominantly male job and yet not only does she hold her own but she excels and I adore that for her.  I loved watching her and Colin fall for each other while attempting to be friend (after a one night stand before they ended up overseas together.)

Colin is both fiercely protective and loyal and that translates to a book boyfriend I fell for. HE is like that with his friends that we have all fallen for and it is an even stronger force when it comes to Joey. But Colin’s story isn’t easy and his decisions are not always the best but it is real and a beautiful story.

This is definitely one of my favorite books by Rebecca Brooke to date. If you love a military romance that this is especially for you. But honestly this is a book that everyone can enjoy.
